He is currently working with Syrian and EU partners to open path for justice to Syrians. And advocating the victims of enforced disappeared in Syria. Omari contributed to the documentation of human rights violations in Syria with the beginning of the Syrian Uprising. He received, with his colleagues, the PEC Award in June 2012, rewarding a person or an organization who worked for the protection of journalists and the freedom of the press, while he was in detention. In 2013 Omari received the Hellman-Hammett Award that recognizes writers for their commitment to free expression. He is Syria correspondent for Reporters Without Borders and author of 'Syria Through Western Eyes'
