WHY ARE WOMEN VITAL FOR PEACE AND ACCOUNTABILITY? Kiruba Munusamy, an advocate practicing in the Supreme Court of India, is striving for the annihilation of caste through social justice. She explains why legal empowerment of Dalit Women is vital for the liberation and social empowerment of Dalit Women. There are several instances where Dalit Women in India were subjected to caste-based sexual violence. None of the occasion, the investigating agency arrested the accused or conducted the investigation properly. Even if the accused is arrested and the case comes up before the courts of law, almost all the cases results either in acquittal or without any observance with regard to caste because of which the dalit women are sexually assaulted and attacked. Hence, it is important to eradicate such barriers through legal empowerment in order to socially empower the dalit women.
