How to withdraw from the ICC

President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines says his country will withdraw from the International Criminal Court. We explain how that happens and what it means for the Philippines (and what it doesn't mean)

so sad

The ICC prosecutor is clearly biased in the Philippine's case. They did not consider the rule on complementarity. It only shows the it is being used only as a political tool to interfere in the countries domestic affairs.

Marilu Rodrigue...

the ICC declaration to examine EJKs and sins of our duly elected loved, popular strong President is all about Politics- Obviously and apparently the opposition supported by an American filipina millionaire and orchestrated by a detained senator(who has been targeted by Pres-Duterte) and is one who enjoyed monies from druglords (as the druglords enjoyed too many liberties while in Prison including making it headquarters of Shabu sales)) while she headed the Dept.of Justice during the corrupt Aquino years and calls herself a Political prisoner, she has masterminded and help distribute black propaganda where no one would challenge her-OVERSEAS !( so she may be released) (with the help of their jester Sen trillanes-By the remarks of a few foreign dignitaries commenting, one can see the partiality and bias of such and it is wise for our president to order the cancelation of our membership at the ICC-We ,the people insist to look at all the hard work of this govt and our president-it is not an easy task to enter the center of govt in a culture of corruption-but he is evidently trying his best but with a tough hard hand and a merciful heart for the neglected-(check his accomplishments before judging) to go against the corrupt flow and fight for the future of your people and of our children specially if you were just a Mayor from a distant Manila is a very hard one -His insistence on our Sovereignty is what makes him special to most of us filipinos-He may not be able to do magic in 6 yrs but he is definitely setting an example why we filipinos should be united ad help him crush all the bad habits of this corrupt culture- so ICC keep away, we need to grow and mature and not be disturb us with such acts that do not represent TRUTH nor is it necessary during our countries transition-check our developments and what PRRD has done till today-The adjustments the Police force had to do since his war on drugs-there is no truth to 20,000 EJKs- neither does he death squads-don't believe a confessed killer that has recanted so many times.it is all abut money-and wanting to regain oppositional power that has been lost rightfully because of the corruption that had been going on everywhere- Wish us luck instead and bear with us afterall, it os for the good and for the future of our filipino children that come first and foremost.Mabuhay!

One must read the newspapers in the Philippines to understand the withdrawal. The drug syndicates have direct links to rebellion and terrorism in the Mindanao area of the Philippines for which martial law was declared. For this reason, Duterte has tremendous support from the population. His approval rating is 85%.

The FACT that Pres.Duterte voted by 16.6 M Filipinos despite of his characteristics, his war on drugs in Davao with allegedly Davao squad, his meeting de avance speech that war will coming soon to those druglords, and all strong will of war against corruption...still he was trusted by Filipinos to lead our nation...and still now 85% trust ratings in almost 2 years of his leadership, and still majority of Filipinos believe and trust him...Let as RESPECT the majority of Filipinos FIRST before any guys outside...Lets help the Philippines not for our generation, but for the future...-DDS supporter

ICC has been inveigled into examining human rights abuses in the Philippines by the opposition party, who lost badly in the last elections. They want to oust him via the ICC for them to get back into power. Even their claim of 20K when asked for proof they can't give any evidence or proof that it really happened. Our PNP however offered 4K++ cases of probable murders AND THESE are now in the courts. Having said, that would ICC forego their complementarity principle and proceed with the examination EVEN IF OUR COURTS ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL? THAT CASES HAVE BEEN FILED AND IN THE PROCESS OF LITIGATION? Proceeding with examination in my opinion and setting aside your complementarity principle is verging on BIAS and hewing to what the local opposition wants - oust Duterte. Will you be a complicit accomplice to frustrate the wish of 16M who voted for him? What can you say ICC with 83% who trusted him. What says thou tribunes?

I beg to kindly disagree with Jorge’s hypothesis. I believe that the LP Party is too weak, too disoriented and too politically insignificant to be able wield such power at this point. Really, the ICC being controlled by the Lilliputs are imaginations that runs deep on empty heads. These conspiracy theories are more profitable on movies and books.

To all people of this planet, Duterte is fully supported by the citizens of the Republic Of The Philippines. 87% approved of his handling of the government. The ICC has been used to destabilized the Duterte government by the corrupt previous government as these people who raped the treasury of the country for the last 30 years are finally having their day in court.

the author of this website is ILLITERATE and IGNORANT OF LAW, you are just making a mockery of the Filipino intelligence

ANO PO BA TINGIN NYO SA MGA PINOY? KASING INUTIL AT BOBO NINYO?!

malaki po ang pinagka-iba ng PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION sa CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS at cgurado walang FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS na ang Pilipinas sa ICC! PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION is NOT part of the process of prosecuting any criminal complaint in the ICC.

iyak na lang po kayo dahil mas wais pa rin si President Duterte sa mga dilawan tulad mo!

ICC are used by political groups in the Philippines to pursue their own agenda of grabbing back the power from a duly elected leader in the Philippines. This politicians are corrupt to the core, the pocketed the donations of many countries during the onslaught of typhoon Yolanda in the amount of billions, they also put at stake the lives of more than 830, 000 Filipino children by rushing to purchase the anti dengue vaccine called Dengvaxia and injected it to innocent children, now some of these children dying and more to come, they are also the author on the miserable transportation problem in the Philippines, particularly the metro rail transit by purchasing incompatible trains from china and without a motor in the amount of billions of pesos or millions of dollars, they send Filipino policemen to the den of the terrorists and let them die there resulting to the death of 44 special police officers, (reward money given by the american amounted to 5 MILLION DOLLARS), they are also involve in the purchase of the right of way scam amounting to millions of the dollars...this politicians in connivance with the oligarchs who doesn't pay their taxes RIGHTLY and owed billions upon billions of pesos to gov't banks and was just condone by their cahoots in the gov't., together with the big time drug lords and drug syndicates and criminals, are going in full force to bring the current Philippine President down...since people are not believing anymore of their drama and propaganda using their access in media which the paid up by millions are now using ICC to overthrow the duly elected President....ask any Filipino near you and you will know what the real issue in the Philippines....their is a Political war going on...
