If you ever get round to reading through the outcomes of high-level meetings where ministers get to decide things, they can sound very abstract. Take the fifth African Union - European Union (AU-EU) summit which took place in November in Abidjan.

There was a joint declaration outlining common priorities for the EU-Africa partnership.

But these gatherings are also people to people. And sometimes offer the opportunity for someone like Pilirani Khoza from Malawi to tell a big European donor what she thinks is really needed.

Here’s a little video of the encounter between Pilirani and the new Dutch Minister for Foreign Affairs Halbe Zijlstra.

The AU-EU meeting itself decided on four strategic areas:

  • economic opportunities for youth
  • peace and security
  • mobility and migration
  • cooperation on governance

If you the chance to give your view to an important donor, what would it be?
